Friends and Funding

Friends of the Orchestra of the Eastern Shore consists of local citizens, businesses, and orchestra members who donate money in support of the orchestra. The Friends group was established in 2005, following the orchestra's incorporation and award of 501c3 non-profit status.

Contributions benefit the orchestra in several ways. First, they provide a secure base of operations by enabling a regular stipend to the music director, purchase of new music, and coverage of miscellaneous administrative and musical expenses. Second, they are matching funds for foundation grants, either explicitly or implicitly as proof of community support.

Most important, proper funding will allow the orchestra to expand its activities. For example, our local schools have no string instrument programs. Friends funds would enable Dr. Dundon to appear in local schools and demonstrate string instruments, and would possibly even fund scholarship music lessons for students. We also could pay guest soloists for performing with the orchestra and provide "master classes" for local players.

Ideas and in-kind donations as well as monetary contributions are welcome. Friends will be recognized and listed in orchestra programs. For questions, contact us, or call Dr. Peter Dundon at 757-STRINGS (787-4647).
